Waterloo Biofilter

History of Waterloo

Proved and Approved

The Waterloo Biofilter® was developed in 1991  by Dr. Craig Jowett, president of Waterloo Biofilter Systems, Inc. Extensive laboratory and field testing of different filter media determined that our foam filter medium provides the most effective treatment of all, and numerous university and government field demonstrations have confirmed this.

Our systems are now installed across Canada, the United States and Korea, treating wastewater from individual houses, large trailer parks, golf courses, and small municipalities. We are pioneers in innovative wastewater treatment and effluent disposal, and we conduct on-going research into better and more cost-effective solutions.

With Waterloo’s extensive experience and history, we truly understand how your wastewater will be treated and released to the environment. When you choose the Waterloo Biofilter®, you choose the thinking, research, and testing that has shaped this technology. Clear Water Industries brings the local, expert knowledge behind the Waterloo System to your specific installation or project.

The Waterloo Biofilter® system is a compact, reliable and low maintenance septic system, fully approved in Massachusetts for remedial and general use. Waterloo Biofilter® system also has provisional approval for nitrogen reduction which make the Waterloo Biofilter® system ideal for sites which are nitrogen sensitive.

While conventional septic systems use a stone bed to treat and dispose of septic tank effluent, the Waterloo Biofilter® system uses a highly efficient, patented filter medium to provide a consistent and high level of treatment making disposal in soil easy and safe. This system is especially effective for difficult sites such as small lots, heavy clay soils, shallow or exposed bedrock, and high water table.
